At the invitation of His Majesty King Mswati III, the President of the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang participated at the state opening of the 4th session of the 10th parliament of the Kingdom of Eswatini on the 3rd February, 2017.
During his audience with the King, the President of the Pan African Parliament Hon Roger Nkodo Dang, expressed his desire for all African states to show solidarity and a united front in 2017, noting that the past year was marked with challenging incidences such as the rise of religious intolerance and radicalization of youth among the list.
Hon Nkodo Dang commended the King for his efforts in encouraging SADC to establish a Parliamentary Forum, calling on Swaziland and all African countries to ratify the Malabo Protocol, which he said would allow the Pan-African Parliament to fully play its role as a continental legislature.
The president also congratulated Princess Sikhanyiso for being named the UN Ambassador for Youth, indicating that 2017 was a pivotal year for the African youth, as per the affirmation by the theme of the African Union Summit “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in Youth”, and also recognizing that young people constituted 40 % of the African population.
“2017 presents an opportunity for discussion fora that would enable leaders and authorities to listen to the youth and assess the level of implementation of commitments made, in order to introduce due adjustments that would be beneficial to young people,” Hon Dang said.
The President again congratulated the King for being elected to the position of the vice-Chairperson of the African Union.
In his address, King Mswati III noted and appreciated the honor bestowed on the Kingdom of Swaziland to become Chair to lead the African Leaders Malaria Alliance by the 2017 AU Meeting held in in Addis Ababa.
