Cabo Verde hosts PAP Committees

The National Assembly of Cabo Verde is set to host a joint sitting of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Permanent Committees on Gender and Health from 5 to 9 August 2019. The Joint Sitting will be opened by the Rt. Hon. Jorge SANTOS, Speaker of the National Assembly of Cabo Verde. 

The meeting will be held in parallel with the August Sittings of the Permanent Committees of the fifth Parliament of PAP scheduled to take place at its seat in Midrand under the African Union theme of 2019; ‘Year of Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons in Africa; Towards durable Solutions to Forced Displacement.’

The joint sitting will among other things engage on the promotion of children’s rights; empowerment of women and girls and gender parity; and the inclusion of people living with disabilities. The Cabo Verde Sitting will also serve as a platform for the 3rd Africa TB Summit for Parliamentarians, a collaboration between the PAP, NEPAD and the Africa TB Caucus.

The Rt. Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG, President of the PAP, says this Joint Sitting form part of the commitment to bring the Continental Parliament to the citizens of Africa to ensure that all regions of the continent have access to the representation of the peoples of Africa.

“These sittings and consultations outside of the PAP’s seat in Midrand, South Africa, will enhance our public outreach and visibility. We are appreciative to the National Assembly of Cabo Verde for hosting this component of our August Sittings, where more that 40 members of the PAP will concert on the critical issues facing our people,” says the Rt. Hon. Nkodo DANG.

The Joint Sitting in Cabo Verde will be officiated by Hon. Aurélien-Simplice ZINGAS-KONGBELET, Chairperson of the PAP Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs; and Hon. Lucia Mendes dos PASSOS, Chairperson of the PAP Committee on Gender, Family, Youth and People with Disability.
