PAP and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency cooperate more closely to advance the rights of African refugees

“The Pan African Parliament has a huge role to play in conflict prevention – one of the primary drivers of displacement in Africa”.

Such was the view of Ms Marina Sharpe, the Senior Legal Officer of the UNHCR Representation to the African Union, during the signing of an agreement between the UNHCR and the PAP that will see the two parties cooperate more closely to protect the rights of refugees and stateless persons in Africa.

The agreement was signed between PAP President Hon Roger Nkodo Dang and Mr Cosmas Chanda, UNHCR Representative to the African Union.

The signing formed part of a day-long session during which various stakeholders, including representatives from the African Union, the UNHCR, the Red Cross and regional economic communities, elevated parliamentarians’ unique position to contribute towards the plight of refugees and internally displaced persons in Africa.
