PAP joins Stakeholders on advancing the Sustainable Development Agenda



An 8-member delegation from the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is currently participating in the 5th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, from 16 – 18 April 2019. 

Held under the theme Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality, the forum serves as a regional follow-up and review of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063 goals. It is also meant to facilitate learning, sharing of experiences and lessons to advance implementation.

Delegates are drawn from the Permanent Committee on Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment; Committee on Transport, Industry, Communications, Energy and Technology; that of Gender, Family, Youth and People with Disabilities as well as the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs.

 Apart from engaging at a high-level panel on the theme, participants will review the progress report on the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.

Attention will be given to SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 10 (reduced inequalities), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals) and the corresponding goals of Agenda 2063.

The outcome is expected to feed into the 2019 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices of ECOSOC, which will be held in July 2019. 

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) organizes annually; the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) in collaboration with regional organizations and the United Nations System. The ARFSD seeks to advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and the goals set out in Africa’s Agenda 2063.
