Pan-African Parliament hails Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Abiy Ahmed ALI

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has congratulated the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy AHMED ALI on his global recognition and appreciation for among others, brokering a peace deal with Eritrea and ending a 20-year military stalemate following a border war.

The continental Parliament says His nomination alongside 300 other outstanding personalities and the ultimate awarding of the 100th Nobel Peace Prize to Him, must be celebrated by all Africans.

“It is with great pleasure and pride that I learnt of the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo to award you the Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for your extraordinary efforts in conflict resolution and peace-making through dialogue in your country, and the region,” says the letter addressed to Prime Minister Abiy AHMED ALI by the PAP President, the Rt. Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG.

He says in bestowing the Rt. Hon. Ahmed the most prestigious award, the Committee recognises his commitment to justice and the spread of peace and reconciliation throughout Africa and around the world, which underscores his vision for tolerance and dialogue among states, cultures, peoples and civilizations.

The PAP President has also pledged his support and that of the Pan-African Parliament to the Laureate in his endeavour to preserve the stability and development of the African continent.

“This award serves as a reminder for strengthening of continental solidarity, cooperation and development; promotion of peace, security and stability. These are ideals that all African citizens must live by.  I therefore wish to take this opportunity to call on all our Leaders to emulate this magnificent example.”
